The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, was announced as the winner of the February 25 presidential election in Borno State on Tuesday evening. He received the highest number of votes among 17 other candidates, polling a total of 252,282 votes across the 27 local government areas. The declaration was made by the Borno State Presidential Election Collation Officer, Prof. Jude Rabo.
Tinubu’s victory margin was significant, as he led the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, by approximately 60,000 votes. Abubakar garnered 190,921 votes, while Peter Obi of the Labour Party received 7,205 votes, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) secured 4,626 votes. The results announced at the collation center indicated a total of 2,497,337 registered voters, with 499,543 accredited voters. The total valid votes amounted to 465,287, while 32,658 votes were rejected, resulting in a total of 497,945 votes cast.
The breakdown of votes by political parties is as follows: APC – 252,282, PDP – 190,921, LP – 7,205, NNPP – 4,626, among others. The detailed results for various political parties include: A – 541, AA – 915, AAC – 349, ADC – 1,654, ADP – 1,475, APGA – 1,211, APM – 584, APP – 538, BP – 207, NRM – 770, PRP – 620, SDP – 406, YPP – 416, and ZLP – 567.
A further breakdown of the results by local government area reveals the following: In Gubio LGA, Tinubu received 3,519 votes, while Abubakar received 2,127 votes. In Kaga LGA, Tinubu garnered 5,361 votes against Abubakar’s 2,608 votes. The trend continued across various local governments, with Tinubu consistently leading. For instance, in Maiduguri Municipal Council, Tinubu received 42,306 votes compared to Abubakar’s 36,948 votes.
Overall, the total votes from the 27 local government areas confirmed Tinubu’s dominance in the election, with the final tallies showing APC at 252,282 votes, PDP at 190,921 votes, NNPP at 4,626 votes, and LP at 7,205 votes.
