Air Peace has said it has not yet received an official report from the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) concerning the alleged substance use by some crew members during an incident at Port Harcourt Airport on 13 July 2025. In a statement posted on its official social media account, the airline emphasized its commitment to safety, transparency and regulatory compliance.

The incident involved one of Air Peace’s aircraft, and a preliminary NSIB report has been circulating online and in the media. However, the airline maintains that, more than a month after the event, it has not received any formal communication from the NSIB, even though the crew were tested for alcohol less than an hour after the incident.

Air Peace stresses that, as a responsible carrier, it conducts frequent alcohol and drug tests on its crew and enforces an alcohol‑use policy that exceeds regulatory requirements, alongside a zero‑tolerance stance on drug use. Following the incident, the captain of the flight was grounded and relieved of further flight duties for failing to adhere to Crew Resource Management principles and for disregarding standard go‑around procedures. This action was taken independently of the breath‑alyzer results, which have not been disclosed by the NSIB.

In contrast to media reports, the First Officer—who had called for a go‑around and demonstrated professionalism—has been reinstated to active flying duties with the approval of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). The NCAA’s clearance suggests that the First Officer was not involved in any substance use, as the authority would not have permitted his return otherwise.

The episode underscores the importance of safety and compliance in aviation. Air Peace’s strict policies, transparent communication and ongoing focus on safety illustrate its dedication to these principles as the investigation continues.
