Sokoto, Kebbi superhighway to gulp N3 trillion –Umahi  — Daily Nigerian

Minister of Works Senator David Umahi announced that the Sokoto‑Kebbi axis of the superhighway project will cost about N3 trillion. He made the disclosure while inspecting the 40‑kilometre Section 1A of the ongoing superhighway in Silame Local Government Area, Sokoto State. Umahi stressed that the project forms part of the Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to improve road networks and train‑service connectivity across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones and to stimulate socio‑economic development in the region.

The agenda includes several major undertakings: the 750‑km Lagos‑Calabar Coastal Road Corridor, the 1,068‑km Sokoto‑Badagry Road, the Calabar‑Abuja superhighway, the 482‑km Trans‑Saharan road, and the 439‑km Akwanga‑Jos‑Bauchi‑Gombe road. According to Umahi, the Sokoto‑Badagry superhighway—stretching from Illela in Sokoto to Badagry in Lagos—demonstrates President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to improving citizens’ lives and revitalising nationwide socio‑economic activity. The highway is being built with concrete surfacing, lighting, CCTV cameras, and equipped with health, traffic and security stations to ensure rapid emergency response.

Umahi also highlighted other ongoing projects under the current administration, such as the reconstruction of the concrete road linking Sokoto, Gusau, Funtua and Zaria, as well as the Kano‑Abuja and Kano‑Katsina roads. He assured that all projects are progressing and that the president has pledged to complete them within the stipulated timelines. Specifically, the 120‑kilometre segment of the superhighway from the Sokoto axis is slated for completion by the end of 2026.

The minister praised Hightech Construction Company Ltd. for its work on the project and commended the Chief of Defence Staff, the Inspector General of Police, the State Security Service and other security agencies for ensuring smooth operations. He also thanked the Sokoto State government for its commitment to the success of federal projects and urged community members to continue supporting the project handlers.

Minister of State for Works Bello Goronyo added that the Northwest region has benefited markedly from President Tinubu’s initiatives, describing the Sokoto‑Badagry superhighway as a “game changer.” The project is expected to attract economic investment, foster growth and uplift social development in the region. With completion anticipated within the next five years, it is poised to become a major success story for the administration.
