NPFL: Wikki Tourists must improve on goal scoring - Maikaba

Wikki Tourists’ technical adviser, Abdullahi Maikaba, emphasized the need for his team to improve their finishing after a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Katsina United in a matchday five fixture at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium. The loss on Monday marked the team’s second consecutive match without a goal, highlighting the urgency of addressing this issue.

Maikaba’s assessment came after his side created several scoring opportunities but failed to capitalize on them. “We created chances enough to win the game but couldn’t convert,” he said in a post‑match interview. This inability to finish has become a recurring theme for Wikki Tourists, who have now gone two matches without finding the back of the net.

Currently, the Bauchi Elephants occupy ninth place on the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) table with seven points from five games. This position reflects a mixed start to the season, and the recent defeat to Katsina United is a significant setback. Maikaba assured that the team would work on improving their finishing before their next match against Rangers in week six, recognizing the importance of converting chances into goals to stay competitive.

The upcoming clash with Rangers offers Wikki Tourists an opportunity to bounce back and address their scoring woes. With the NPFL season still in its early stages, there is ample time for the team to rectify their issues and push up the table. However, the immediate focus will be on enhancing their goal‑scoring capabilities to compete effectively against upcoming opponents.

Maikaba’s commitment to resolving the team’s finishing problems is crucial given the competitive nature of the NPFL. As Wikki Tourists prepare to face Rangers, their ability to convert chances into goals will be under scrutiny, and their progress in the league will depend significantly on overcoming the current scoring challenges and securing vital wins in the coming weeks.
