The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed its support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections. According to the party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, the Southwest region will continue to back the president, dismissing claims that the region would not re-elect him.
Oladejo’s statement was in response to comments attributed to supporters of Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, a presidential aspirant for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The supporters had claimed that the Southwest would not support Tinubu’s re-election bid. However, Oladejo argued that Olawepo-Hashim lacks the necessary political structure and electoral capacity to pose a serious challenge.
The APC spokesperson expressed confidence that President Tinubu would emerge victorious in the 2027 elections, defeating any opposition coalition. He described Olawepo-Hashim as a “perennial aspirant” and criticized his endorsements as mere “photocopied letterhead endorsements” that do not translate to votes.
Oladejo also defended the Tinubu administration’s record, stating that it has made significant progress in areas such as infrastructure, education, agriculture, security, and fiscal reforms. He criticized Olawepo-Hashim’s remarks on the administration as “distasteful and unacceptable,” arguing that the opposition cannot defend its alternative vision for the country.
The APC spokesperson emphasized that Nigerians will not be swayed by the opposition’s “selective statistics and currency rhetoric” and will instead opt for continuity under a president who has delivered tangible results. He urged the opposition to stop “insulting the intelligence” of Lagos residents and Nigerians, stating that issuing press releases is not equivalent to effective governance.
In the 2027 elections, Oladejo predicted that voters will choose continuity under President Tinubu rather than backing “political tourists” with no substance. The Southwest region, he said, will not abandon its support for the president in favor of an opposition project lacking in substance. The APC’s reaffirmation of support for Tinubu sets the tone for the upcoming elections, with the party confident of its chances of success.
