2027: Aregbesola declares ADC Nigeria’s only credible alternative

Rauf Aregbesola, former Minister of Interior and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), believes President Bola Tinubu will lose the 2027 general elections. He made the remark in an interview with journalists in Ilorin after the commissioning of the ADC’s state secretariat. Aregbesola argued that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) lacks confidence in its strength, which he says explains the party’s harassment and intimidation of opposition members across the country. He cited incidents in Lagos, Kebbi and Kaduna as evidence of the APC’s insecurity, suggesting the party is aware of its unpopularity and that the ADC is ready to capitalize on the situation.

The former minister also criticized the recent wave of governors joining the APC, labeling them “enemies of the people.” He reaffirmed his confidence that the ADC will assume the mantle of leadership in Nigeria and in most states. In a similar vein, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, the immediate past governor of Kwara State who recently defected from the PDP to the ADC, declared that his party is prepared to take charge of the country. Ahmed’s statement signals that the ADC is gearing up to challenge the APC’s dominance in the 2027 elections.

These assertions come amid a backdrop of political realignments and defections within Nigeria’s political landscape. As the nation approaches the 2027 general elections, the ADC’s confidence in unseating the APC will be closely watched by observers and analysts. Ultimately, the election outcome will hinge on factors such as the incumbent government’s performance, the opposition’s strategy, and voter sentiment.
