PDP Accuses Ondo Governor of Deceit and Misgovernance

You only have 4 years, focus on governance not political wars – Group tells Aiyedatiwa

The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized the state government, led by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for allegedly prioritizing propaganda and self-promotion over effective governance. According to the PDP, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) administration has resorted to a “government of blackmail,” characterized by deceit and misinformation.

The PDP’s Director of Media and Publicity, Wande T. Ajayi, called on the government to increase transparency by publishing a list of contractors, payment records, and the current state of the 2025 budget implementation. Ajayi emphasized that the PDP will not tolerate threats or attempts to silence critics using the Cybercrime Act. Instead, the party will focus on highlighting the administration’s shortcomings, including its inability to address pressing issues such as hunger, unemployment, and infrastructure decay.

Ajayi questioned the government’s claims of defending truth, citing the state’s stalled projects, struggling healthcare and education systems, and the recent strike at Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA). The PDP spokesperson argued that the administration’s actions do not align with its rhetoric, and that true leadership is demonstrated through conduct, not threats.

In response to the PDP’s allegations, Governor Aiyedatiwa’s Special Assistant on Digital Media, Yomi Oyekan, asserted that the current administration is making progress in fixing the state’s broken systems. Oyekan noted that salaries and pensions are being paid, projects are ongoing, and the quality of life for Ondo residents is improving. He advised the PDP to take note of the government’s achievements rather than seeking attention through criticism.

The exchange between the PDP and the Ondo State government reflects the ongoing tensions between the ruling APC and the opposition party. As the state continues to navigate its development challenges, the transparency and accountability of the government will remain a key focus for citizens and stakeholders. The PDP’s calls for increased transparency and the government’s claims of progress highlight the need for constructive dialogue and collaboration to address the state’s pressing issues.
