The Ohanaeze Ndigbo community in Lagos State has voiced confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure a second term in the 2027 general elections. Chief Sunday Udeh, President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, made the declaration during a reconciliation meeting convened by Dr. Abdul‑Azeez Olajide Adediran, Lead Visioner of the Lagos4Lagos Movement. The gathering sought to promote harmony between Yoruba and Igbo residents after recent demolitions in the state.
Udeh praised Tinubu as an experienced leader who understands governance and deserves another term. He asserted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will win again and expressed no doubt about the party’s victory. Urging both ethnic groups to live in peace and mutual respect, he warned against sentiments that could create divisions. He also called on the Lagos State Government to engage with the Igbo community and other ethnic groups to ensure inclusiveness and unity. Relations between Igbos and the Lagos government had become strained after the 2023 elections, but Udeh assured that renewed dialogue and collaboration would help rebuild trust.
Deacon Charles Obih, National President of the Market Leaders Association of Nigeria, pledged the support of the Igbo business community for Tinubu’s re‑election, describing the President as a capable, pragmatic leader who has continued to address difficult national challenges with determination. Dr. Okey Anorue, Eze Ndigbo of Igbogbo/Bayeku and Babaloja of Tejuosho Market, called for unity and understanding between the Igbo and Yoruba communities. He emphasized the need to strengthen bonds ahead of the 2027 elections to prevent political actors from exploiting ethnic sentiments, urging Igbos in Lagos to reject any attempts to incite conflict.
The meeting and its declarations underscore the importance of unity and cooperation among Lagos’s diverse ethnic groups as the 2027 general elections approach. With the APC and its supporters expressing confidence in Tinubu’s re‑election bid, the coming months are likely to see heightened political activity and campaigning.
