Zamfara PDP Unfazed by Defection to APC

Kebbi PDP demands release of party spokesperson, alleges biased court ruling

The Zamfara chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its commitment to its mission, despite recent defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This statement comes in response to the defection of Maharazu Faru, a member of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, who cited Governor Dauda Lawal’s alleged failure to fulfill campaign promises as his reason for leaving the party.

Faru, along with PDP executives from five wards, defected to the APC, stating that the governor had not addressed key challenges such as insecurity, which was a major factor in his election. However, the PDP has downplayed the significance of Faru’s defection, stating that it is not surprised by his decision. According to the party’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Halliru Andi, those who prioritize personal interests over the collective will of the people often find themselves on the wrong side of history.

The PDP has expressed confidence in Governor Lawal’s leadership, citing his efforts to restore hope, strengthen institutions, and safeguard the lives and livelihoods of Zamfara’s citizens. The party believes that its ongoing reforms and development initiatives demonstrate its commitment to progress and compassion. Despite Faru’s defection, the PDP maintains a majority in the Zamfara State House of Assembly, with 14 members, while the APC now has 10 lawmakers.

The PDP has called on its members and supporters to remain steadfast, stating that no defection can shake the party’s foundation or alter the will of the people. The party is confident that it will emerge victorious in the next elections, winning overwhelmingly at all levels. With its strong presence in the state, the PDP remains a dominant force in Zamfara’s political landscape.

The defection of Faru and other PDP executives to the APC highlights the ongoing political dynamics in Zamfara, where the PDP controls the state government while the APC holds power at the federal level. As the political landscape continues to evolve, the PDP’s ability to maintain its support base and deliver on its promises will be crucial in determining its future success.
