Macron popularity hits record low 11 percent

Macron’s popularity sinks to record low – poll — RT World News

French President Emmanuel Macron’s popularity has reached a record low, with his approval rating plummeting to 11%, according to a recent poll published by Le Figaro. This significant decline comes after Macron narrowly avoided impeachment earlier this month, despite facing criticism for his handling of France’s deepening political crisis.

Macron’s government has struggled to maintain a parliamentary majority since he dissolved the National Assembly in June 2024, a move that was seen as a gamble following his coalition’s defeat in the European Parliament elections. This decision resulted in a hung parliament, bringing much of the country’s legislative work to a standstill.

Since taking office in 2017, Macron has seen a high turnover of prime ministers, with seven resignations, including those of Edouard Philippe, Jean Castex, Elisabeth Borne, Gabriel Attal, Michel Barnier, and Francois Bayrou. The current prime minister, Sebastien Lecornu, was reappointed by Macron after resigning in October due to a parliamentary split over the government’s budget aimed at addressing the nation’s rising debt.

The 11% approval mark is the lowest for any French president since the early 1970s, when polling organizations began tracking public opinion. Macron’s predecessor, Francois Hollande, also reached a similar low in late 2016, before announcing that he would not seek a second presidential term. According to the Verian Group, which conducted the survey of 1,000 respondents, Macron is now tied with Hollande as France’s least popular president.

Previous surveys have shown a steady decline in Macron’s approval rating, from 21% in January 2025 to 15% last month. A significant 80% of respondents expressed distrust in the president. The latest poll highlights the growing discontent among the French public with Macron’s leadership and handling of the country’s political and economic challenges.

The decline in Macron’s popularity raises questions about his ability to effectively govern and implement policies, particularly in the face of a divided parliament. As France continues to navigate its political crisis, the president’s low approval rating is likely to have significant implications for the country’s future direction and stability.
