The Social Democratic Party’s governorship candidate for Taraba State in the 2023 general elections, Danladi Baido Tijo, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress. The announcement was made during a meeting with his campaign council at his residence in Jalingo, the state capital, on Tuesday.
Baido said his decision was driven by the notable progress made by Governor Agbu Kefas in less than two years in office. He described the governor as a visionary leader with a unifying agenda and praised Kefas’ efforts to transcend political, religious and ethnic divisions in the state. Baido urged voters, youths and political groups to support the Kefas administration to ensure continued development across Taraba State.
A.A. Liman and Senator Ibrahim Goje commended Baido’s move, calling it a bold and patriotic decision in the best interest of the state. Leaders of Baido’s former campaign groups also expressed loyalty and support for his new affiliation with the APC.
The defection of a prominent figure like Baido to the APC may have significant implications for Taraba’s political landscape. As a former governorship candidate, Baido’s influence and network could bolster the APC’s presence in the state and reflect the evolving political dynamics as politicians navigate alliances ahead of future elections. Governor Kefas’ administration has been notable for its efforts to promote unity and development, and Baido’s switch may give the APC additional momentum in delivering democratic dividends to the state’s citizens. As the political scene continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how this development will impact governance and the APC’s prospects in upcoming elections.
