The Bauchi State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has initiated a consensus-building process to select a unified governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections. This move aims to avoid internal divisions that have hindered the party’s performance in previous election cycles. According to Dan’Umma Bello, Acting Chairman of the APC Credibility Forum, the party is prioritizing unity, coordination, and presenting a candidate that reflects the collective interest of its members.
The Forum, which comprises key stakeholders, has started strategic consultations with major political actors within the party. Bello emphasized that the focus is on finding a candidate who can win, unite the party, and govern effectively. He noted that Bauchi is naturally an APC state, but the party needs to demonstrate sincerity of purpose to reclaim the governorship through the ballot.
The emergency meeting, held in Bauchi, was attended by representatives of five strong governorship aspirants, including Prof. Ali Pate, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Senator Shehu Buba Umar, former Governor M. A. Abubakar, and others. The aspirants’ representatives expressed readiness to work together under a single front, prioritizing cohesion, strategic planning, and issue-based engagement.
The APC Credibility Forum has recorded strong commitment from various stakeholders who share the vision of securing purposeful leadership for the state under the APC. Bello urged party members to respect differing views and work collectively to return the APC to power in Bauchi. The Forum’s efforts are seen as crucial in promoting a unified and strong party ahead of the 2027 elections.
The APC’s efforts to rebuild and reunite its members in Bauchi State are significant, given the party’s history of internal conflicts. By prioritizing unity and coordination, the party aims to increase its chances of success in the upcoming elections. As the 2027 general elections approach, the APC’s ability to present a strong, unified candidate will be crucial in determining its performance in Bauchi State.
