ADC Reveals Why Atiku, Obi Missed Event

I'm ready to step aside for new leader - Kebbi ADC chairperson welcomes coalition

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has addressed speculation surrounding the absence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, from the unveiling of its new secretariat in Abuja. According to the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the event took place on November 17, with key leaders in attendance, including the ADC National Chairman, David Mark, and the party’s National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola.

The unveiling ceremony marked an important milestone for the ADC, with Mark highlighting the significance of the new secretariat as a symbol of the coalition’s commitment to reshaping Nigeria’s political future. He described the secretariat as “a physical testament to our collective resolve to build a greater nation” and emphasized the party’s focus on good governance, accountability, and strengthening democracy.

Regarding the absence of Obi and Atiku, Abdullahi dismissed reports suggesting that Obi had snubbed the event due to the secretariat’s previous association with Atiku’s campaign office. He explained that Obi was out of the country at the time of the event, while Atiku was unavailable due to other engagements. Abdullahi stressed that Obi remains committed to the coalition and that there is no indication of his withdrawal.

The ADC’s National Publicity Secretary also clarified that the building housing the new secretariat was leased by the party and not donated by Atiku. He stated that Atiku’s rent had expired, and the ADC had taken over the lease. Abdullahi reaffirmed that the coalition is united in its goal to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections, dispelling any notions of a rift among party leaders.

The ADC’s new secretariat is seen as a crucial step in the party’s efforts to reposition itself ahead of the upcoming elections. With its leadership reaffirming their commitment to the coalition’s objectives, the party is poised to play a significant role in Nigeria’s political landscape. As the country prepares for the 2027 elections, the ADC’s actions and strategies will be closely watched by political observers and analysts.
