The Kebbi State Government has refuted recent statements made by Senator Garba Maidoki regarding insecurity, development projects, and displaced communities in the state, characterizing them as inaccurate. According to a statement released by Abdullahi Idris, Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to Governor Nasir Idris, the senator’s remarks distorted the security situation, particularly in the aftermath of the abduction of students from Government Girls Secondary School in Sakaba Local Government Area.
The government disputed Senator Maidoki’s claim that 200 communities were displaced due to banditry, citing official records that indicate around 50 affected communities along the Wasagu–Sakaba axis have returned home as a result of coordinated security operations. The state government emphasized its collaboration with the Defence Headquarters in planning military deployments and field operations, while also providing logistical support.
In terms of infrastructure development, the government noted that the reconstruction of the long-abandoned federal Koko–Zuru road is currently underway. Additionally, security conferences have been held, bringing together traditional rulers, military officials, and academics to address regional challenges. The government alleged that Senator Maidoki has not participated in consultations with representatives of affected communities, suggesting that his criticisms are driven by political motivations.
Senator Maidoki, who represents Kebbi South, has been a vocal critic of the government’s handling of security and infrastructure, leading to ongoing tensions with the APC-led administration. The government’s response underscores its commitment to addressing the state’s challenges, stating that “desperate collaborations by politicians driven by personal interest will not derail the government’s commitment to the people.”
The exchange highlights the complex security situation in Kebbi State, where bandit attacks and kidnappings have been a persistent concern. The government’s efforts to restore stability and develop infrastructure are crucial to addressing the needs of affected communities. As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the government’s initiatives will impact the state’s security and development landscape.
