'No Plateau LGA under bandits' control' - Gov Mutfwang

The Conference of Past Legislative Council Leaders (CPLCL) has denied any involvement in the alleged rejection of Plateau State Governor Barr. Caleb Mutfwang’s attempt to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a statement released on Sunday, the group—composed of former legislators from various party platforms—clarified that it was neither consulted nor did it endorse any move to block Mutfwang’s potential defection.

The statement, signed by former legislative leaders Rt. Hon. Damar Yaksun, Rt. Hon. Fom Wash Toma, and Hon. Eng. Samuel Azi, noted that the CPLCL’s attention was drawn to a press conference held by the Immediate Past Councillors Forum of Plateau State. That forum claimed the CPLCL supported the rejection of Mutfwang’s prospective APC membership. The CPLCL leaders called this claim inaccurate, stating it did not reflect the collective view of their organization and that the press conference was conducted without their consultation or alignment with their decision‑making processes.

As a body of respected grassroots politicians, the CPLCL operates collaboratively, aiming to connect people to opportunities that enhance their lives while promoting the APC’s ideology. The group believes the APC, as a progressive party, should focus on uniting people for societal growth and development, emphasizing the importance of unity in addressing the insecurity that threatens Nigeria’s existence as a nation. Proud to be part of the APC movement, which they describe as an umbrella uniting people, the CPLCL reaffirmed its commitment to the party’s principles and its role in fostering national unity and development.

The clarification comes as the APC continues to navigate internal dynamics, with various groups and stakeholders voicing opinions on the party’s direction and membership. The CPLCL’s statement underscores the need for collaborative decision‑making and inclusive processes within the party, ensuring that all members’ voices are heard and valued. As the APC looks to the future, the CPLCL’s emphasis on unity and collective progress is likely to resonate with many Nigerians seeking a more cohesive and effective political landscape.
