The Vice Chancellor of Osun State University, Prof. Clement Adebooye, has warned students against using social media to portray the institution in a negative light, stating that such actions have far-reaching consequences for the university’s reputation and the students’ own academic and professional futures. This warning was issued during the 19th matriculation ceremony of the institution, held in Osogbo.

Prof. Adebooye congratulated the new intake of students, noting that out of approximately 40,000 candidates who participated in the Post-UTME screening exercise, only around 13,000 met the criteria to enroll as undergraduates. He emphasized that being part of the university comes with significant responsibility, including defending the admission offered to them and upholding the institution’s values.

The Vice Chancellor stressed that Osun State University has a zero-tolerance policy towards negative behaviors such as cultism, exam malpractice, fraud, cybercrime, and drug abuse, urging students to refrain from engaging in these activities. Instead, he encouraged them to focus on building a life of value and to report any unexpected incidents to the university authorities.

Prof. Adebooye also expressed concern over the challenge of student accommodation across the university’s campuses, assuring students and parents that decisive steps are being taken to address the situation. This issue is particularly relevant given the growing student population and the need for adequate facilities to support their academic pursuits.

The warning against using social media to demarket the university highlights the importance of maintaining a positive online presence.
