The Vice Chancellor of Osun State University, Prof. Clement Adebooye, warned students against using social media to portray the institution negatively, stressing that such actions can damage the university’s reputation and harm the students’ academic and professional futures. He delivered this warning during the 19th matriculation ceremony held in Osogbo, where he also congratulated the new intake of students.
Prof. Adebooye noted that out of approximately 40,000 candidates who participated in the Post‑UTME screening exercise, only about 13,000 met the criteria to enroll as undergraduates. He emphasized that admission to the university carries significant responsibility, including defending the opportunity granted and upholding the institution’s values.
The Vice Chancellor reiterated Osun State University’s zero‑tolerance policy toward negative behaviors such as cultism, exam malpractice, fraud, cybercrime, and drug abuse. He urged students to avoid these activities, focus on building a valuable life, and report any unexpected incidents to university authorities.
Addressing the challenge of student accommodation across the university’s campuses, Prof. Adebooye assured students and parents that decisive steps are being taken to improve the situation. With a growing student population, adequate facilities are essential to support academic pursuits.
By highlighting the importance of responsible social‑media use, the Vice Chancellor aims to foster a culture of respect and positivity within the university community. Maintaining a positive online presence is crucial for preserving the institution’s reputation and safeguarding students’ prospects. As the university continues to expand, the issue of student accommodation will remain a priority, and the administration’s actions will be closely watched by students, parents, and stakeholders. Ultimately, providing a supportive and conducive learning environment is vital for the academic and professional success of Osun State University’s students.
