Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has disclosed that his administration has allocated approximately N100 billion for security operations across the state this year. This revelation was made during a visit to the Emir of Uba, Ali Ibn Mamza, at his palace in Uba town, Askira/Uba Local Government Area, where the governor assessed the security situation.
The ongoing insecurity in parts of southern Borno has hindered the progress of road projects, as contractors are hesitant to work in high-risk areas. Governor Zulum expressed his plans to construct roads, but noted that the lack of security has made it challenging to find willing contractors. To address this issue, the state is establishing a quarry in Gwoza and procuring 100 trucks to enable its road maintenance agency to undertake projects directly.
The significant allocation of funds to security operations is a testament to the state’s efforts to address the prevailing insecurity. Governor Zulum emphasized that if there were peace, the N100 billion spent on security could have been utilized for development in critical sectors such as education and health. The governor remains committed to initiating road construction and new educational facilities once the security situation improves.
The Emir of Uba acknowledged the state government’s efforts in delivering projects despite the security challenges. The Borno State Government’s commitment to addressing the security situation and investing in development projects is crucial for the state’s progress. As the security situation continues to evolve, the state’s allocation of resources will be closely monitored to ensure that development projects are implemented effectively. The governor’s visit to the Emir of Uba highlights the importance of collaboration between government and community leaders in addressing the security challenges and promoting development in the region.
