Rivers Governor Dumps PDP for APC to Back Tinubu’s Re-election

Fubara’s resilience, an inspiration to us – PDP

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has formally joined the All Progressives Congress, APC, citing his desire to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid and foster a strong working relationship with the federal government. The governor’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was announced earlier in the week.

At a ceremony held at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Fubara received his APC membership card from the party’s chairman, Chief Tony Okocha. The governor described his decision to join the APC as a “spiritual assignment” aimed at promoting the safety, progress, and growth of Rivers State. He emphasized the need for the state to align with the federal government’s direction, particularly in light of President Tinubu’s re-election efforts.

Fubara expressed his gratitude to the APC leadership for the warm reception and pledged to strengthen the party’s structure in the state. He assured that the party’s members and executives would receive his full support, stating, “This is now your home, Mr Chairman. You are welcome here anytime. We will keep the APC active and fully functional in Rivers State, and every need of the party will be taken care of.”

The governor’s decision is seen as a significant development in Nigerian politics, as it potentially shifts the balance of power in the region. With Fubara’s defection, the APC is likely to gain a stronger foothold in Rivers State, which could have implications for the upcoming elections. As the governor works to consolidate his position within the APC, it remains to be seen how his new affiliation will impact the state’s development and his relationship with the federal government. For now, Fubara’s commitment to supporting President Tinubu’s re-election bid and strengthening the APC in Rivers State is clear, marking a new chapter in the state’s political landscape.
