APC Urges Unity Ahead of Osun Primary Election

Edo: Gov Okpebholo, PDP on collision course over $10m Nigerian Observer probe

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has been urged to unite and work towards winning the 2026 governorship election. Edo State Governor and Chairman of the APC Primary Election Committee, Godwin Obaseki, made the call during a stakeholders’ meeting at the party’s secretariat in Osogbo. The meeting, held on Friday night, emphasized the party’s commitment to internal democracy ahead of Saturday’s primary election.

Governor Obaseki announced that the party would adopt the affirmation method for the primary, with all 1,660 delegates undergoing proper accreditation before being allowed into the venue. He appealed for calm and cohesion, warning against post-primary divisions that could weaken the party’s chances in the general election. “Our collective goal is to return Osun State to the progressive family in 2026, and that can only be achieved if we work together,” he said.

The governor assured party members that the primary election would be conducted transparently and fairly, in strict compliance with the directive of the APC National Working Committee (NWC). He emphasized the importance of unity, stating that internal grievances should not be allowed to hinder the party’s progress.

The APC is seeking to regain control of Osun State, which it lost in the last governorship election. The party’s leadership has been working to reconcile its members and strengthen its structure ahead of the 2026 election. With the primary election scheduled to take place on Saturday, the party is gearing up to select its candidate for the governorship seat.

The outcome of the primary election is expected to be crucial in determining the party’s chances in the 2026 governorship election. As the APC works to regain its foothold in Osun State, the party’s ability to present a united front will be essential in its bid to win back the state. The party’s leadership has assured its members of a free and fair primary election, and the outcome is eagerly anticipated by political observers and party faithful alike.
