Ogun Lawmaker Defects to APC Amid PDP Crisis

BREAKING: All Delta PDP Reps defect to APC

In a significant development, Rasheed Kashamu, a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly representing Ijebu-North State Constituency, has defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The former Minority Whip cited irreconcilable differences and divisions within the PDP at both state and national levels as the reason for his decision.

According to a letter read by the Speaker, Oludaisi Elemide, during a plenary session, Kashamu formally notified the House of his resignation from the PDP and his intention to join the APC. The lawmaker attributed his defection to the factional disputes and leadership tussles plaguing the PDP at the national and state levels, respectively.

Kashamu stated that he had decided to align himself with the APC to support Governor Abiodun’s initiatives, including the Iseya Agenda, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He expressed his desire to bring his “winning formula” in Ijebu North 1 to the APC and work with other progressives in the state to achieve this goal. The lawmaker confirmed that he had registered with the APC at his Oke-Sopen ward in Ijebu-Igbo, Ijebu North Local Government Area, along with his supporters from across Ijebu North.

In a separate development, the Ogun State House of Assembly has received a letter from Governor Dapo Abiodun requesting the confirmation of Mr. Abdul Najeem Olayinka as the new Auditor-General for Local Governments. The nomination follows the retirement of the immediate past Auditor-General, Mr. Lamidi Mulero. The Speaker has directed the nominee to appear before the House on December 17, 2025, and submit the required documents, including his curriculum vitae, by December 16, 2025.

The defection of Kashamu to the APC may have significant implications for the political landscape in Ogun State, particularly in the Ijebu North constituency. As the Assembly considers the nomination of the new Auditor-General, the development is expected to shape the state’s governance and political dynamics in the coming days.
