Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has pledged to eradicate delays in paying benefits to retired public servants, ensuring they receive their entitlements promptly. This commitment was made during the disbursement of severance gratuities, accommodation, and leave allowances to 1,371 former local government councillors who served between 2021 and 2024. The event, held at the Government House in Kano, marked the payment of the final batch of outstanding entitlements, totaling N8.26 billion.

According to the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Yusuf emphasized that public servants who have dedicated years of service to the state should not face undue delays in receiving their benefits. The governor stated that his administration will no longer tolerate situations where workers are kept waiting endlessly for their legally entitled benefits.

This payment is part of the government’s efforts to clear inherited liabilities and restore confidence in the public service. Governor Yusuf introduced reforms to prevent the accumulation of arrears and ensure timely payment of benefits. He noted that structures are being put in place to guarantee transparency, accountability, and proper management of workers’ entitlements.
