Tinubu Attends APC National Executive Committee Meeting

Tinubu in APC NEC meeting

President Bola Tinubu is currently attending the 15th National Executive Committee meeting of the All Progressives Congress at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja. The meeting commenced at 6:05 pm upon the President’s arrival. This gathering marks the party’s second NEC meeting in 2025, following an earlier session held in February, and the first since Professor Nentawe Yilwatda took office as the APC national chairman in July.

The meeting began with an opening prayer led by Taraba State Governor Kefas Agbu, who offered the Christian prayer. The event comes on the heels of the APC’s decision to reschedule its National Caucus and NEC meetings from December 15-16 to December 18-19, with the NEC meeting taking place at the Presidential Villa.

In attendance are several governors and top party leaders, including serving APC governors, former governors, and principal officers of the National Assembly. Notably, the six governors who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC are also present, including Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, and Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas.

The APC National Executive Committee is the party’s highest decision-making body between conventions, bringing together key stakeholders such as the President, Vice President, national chairman, and governors to make binding decisions on party administration, policy direction, and preparations for future elections. The committee’s meetings are crucial in shaping the party’s strategy and direction, particularly in the lead-up to elections.

The meeting’s significance is underscored by the presence of high-ranking officials and the timing, coming as it does after the recent defections and the party’s schedule adjustments. As the APC continues to navigate its internal dynamics and prepare for future electoral challenges, the outcomes of this NEC meeting are likely to have significant implications for the party’s trajectory and Nigeria’s political landscape. With the party’s leadership and stakeholders gathered, the meeting is poised to address key issues and set the tone for the APC’s future endeavors.
