Zamfara PDP Supporters Threaten to Defect

Supporters of a Zamfara State House of Assembly member are threatening to leave the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after a violent attack on the lawmaker in Dansadau. According to Alhaji Sadauki Madugu, a loyalist, the incident has sparked outrage among supporters, who are disappointed by the governor’s inaction despite being present during the attack. Madugu expressed discontent over the perceived lack of concern shown by the governor, stating that the assault on the parliament member was allowed to occur without any consequences for the perpetrators.

The attack has been viewed as an insult not only to the lawmaker but also to the entire constituency. Madugu claimed that the PDP in Zamfara favors outsiders from neighboring states, such as Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna, leaving local members feeling marginalized. He spoke on behalf of hundreds of concerned loyalists who are exploring options to address the situation, including the possibility of defecting to another party where their representation and dignity would be respected.

The state administration has also been criticized for appointing non-indigenous officials to key positions, which Madugu believes has contributed to widespread problems across the state. He highlighted the incident as an example of the PDP’s alleged failure to provide effective leadership in Zamfara. The governor’s disappearance hours after the incident has further exacerbated the situation, leading to accusations of inadequate leadership.

The tensions within the PDP in Zamfara stem from long-standing issues of representation and governance. The party’s approach to leadership has been questioned, with some arguing that it prioritizes the interests of outsiders over those of local members. As the situation unfolds, supporters of the attacked lawmaker are seeking a resolution that addresses their concerns and ensures their dignity and representation are respected. The potential defection of these loyalists could have significant implications for the PDP’s presence in Zamfara, highlighting the need for the party to reassess its approach to governance and representation in the state.
