APC Expels Chairman Alphonsus Eba

APC alleges electoral malpractice in Kano’s by-election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled its chairman, Alphonsus Ogar Eba, from the party. The decision was made at a meeting of the APC State Caretaker Committee held at the party secretariat on Monday. The committee also confirmed the suspension of State Special Leader, Dr. Juliet Ebuo Diwa.

According to the APC State Caretaker Committee’s Publicity Secretary, Emmanuel Edem Inyang, Eba’s expulsion was due to a breach of the party’s constitution. The party invoked Article 21.5(v) of the APC Constitution, which states that any member who takes legal action against the party or its officers without first exhausting internal dispute resolution mechanisms will be automatically expelled.

The motion to invoke this provision was moved by the party’s Vice Chairman for the Central Senatorial District, Dr. Abubakar Efoli, and seconded by the Youth Leader (North), Dr. Joseph Idagu Ogar. The committee affirmed Eba’s expulsion, noting that no appeal will be entertained unless the court action is withdrawn.

The committee also upheld the suspension of Dr. Diwa over alleged misconduct at the ward level. The suspension followed a petition by the APC chairman in Boki LGA, Kelvin Njong, who alleged that Diwa assaulted the ward chairman, James Abang. Diwa’s suspension will remain in force pending the outcome of the party’s disciplinary committee investigation.

The APC’s decision to expel its chairman and suspend a senior leader highlights the ongoing internal conflicts within the party. The expulsion and suspension are likely to have significant implications for the party’s leadership and structure. As the party navigates these challenges, it remains to be seen how these developments will impact its overall direction and effectiveness.

The APC is one of the major political parties in the country, and its internal dynamics can have far-reaching consequences for the political landscape. The party’s ability to manage its internal conflicts and adhere to its constitution will be crucial in maintaining its stability and credibility. As the situation unfolds, it is likely that the party will face increased scrutiny from its members, supporters, and the wider public.
