Atiku’s Aide Dismisses Keyamo’s Claims on Peter Obi

A recent statement by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has sparked a response from Phrank Shaibu, Special Adviser on Public Communications to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Keyamo had claimed that Peter Obi, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), deceived his followers and joined the party to become a running mate rather than a presidential candidate.

Shaibu dismissed Keyamo’s claims, stating that Obi did not defect or deceive anyone, but rather has been part of the coalition from the start. He also refuted the notion that the ADC is the “property” of Atiku Abubakar, emphasizing that coalitions are built through agreements, not ownership. Shaibu argued that Keyamo’s fixation on the vice presidential narrative exposes his own fears, rather than Obi’s intentions.

The exchange highlights the ongoing political maneuvering in Nigeria, where various parties and coalitions are positioning themselves ahead of future elections. The ADC, led by Obi, has been gaining attention for its efforts to challenge the current administration. Shaibu’s response to Keyamo’s claims suggests that the opposition is organizing strategically, while the ruling party relies on noise and intimidation.

The situation has sparked debate about the state of politics in Nigeria, with many citizens expressing frustration over the country’s economic and security challenges. The 2027 elections are expected to be a crucial test for the country’s democratic institutions and the ability of political parties to address the concerns of citizens.

In his statement, Shaibu emphasized that the coalition’s goal is to remove the current administration through the ballot, citing the lived experience of Nigerians as the driving force behind this effort. He also cautioned against insults and threats, urging a focus on strategy and leadership. As the political landscape in Nigeria continues to evolve, the exchange between Shaibu and Keyamo highlights the importance of constructive dialogue and issue-based campaigning.
