In a bid to resolve the ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party, stakeholders from Borno State have urged Governors Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde to put aside their differences and work towards party unity. The stakeholders, led by Chairman Grema Kyari, made this call in Maiduguri, emphasizing the need for loyalty to be realigned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
The call comes as the party continues to grapple with internal conflicts, particularly following the outcome of the Ibadan Convention, which was rejected by the Independent National Electoral Commission. The commission’s decision was commended by the stakeholders, who also praised the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Working Caretaker Committee for its role in dissolving the Borno State PDP Executive Committee and approving a new caretaker committee.
According to Kyari, a member of the National Working Caretaker Committee, the actions taken by the committee have brought renewed hope to party members in Borno State. He noted that the decision reflects the aspirations of party faithful who have long awaited justice and internal democracy. The stakeholders also commended Wike’s commitment to discipline and institutional integrity, describing it as unprecedented, particularly in the face of pressure from governors Mohammed and Makinde.
The group expressed concern over the deepening internal crisis within the party, which they attributed to the actions of governors Mohammed and Makinde, as well as Barrister Kabiru Turaki. They called on these individuals to sheath their swords and work towards party unity, emphasizing the need for loyalty to be realigned with Wike. The stakeholders believe that Wike’s role in strengthening and repositioning the PDP is well known and that his leadership is essential in resolving the current crisis.
The development is the latest in a series of efforts to address the internal conflicts within the PDP. The party has been plagued by divisions and power struggles, which have raised concerns about its ability to present a united front in upcoming elections. As the stakeholders continue to push for unity, it remains to be seen how the party will navigate its current challenges and emerge stronger. The outcome of these efforts will be crucial in determining the party’s future prospects and its ability to compete effectively in the political landscape.
