Super Eagles bonuses paid says Federal Government

The Nigerian government has announced that all group-stage bonuses for the Super Eagles players participating in the Africa Cup of Nations have been released. According to the Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, the payments are expected to reflect in the players’ domiciliary accounts within hours. This development comes after reports emerged that the team was considering boycotting training sessions and potentially declining to travel to Marrakesh for their quarter-final match against Algeria.

The Minister attributed the resolution of the unpaid bonuses to coordinated efforts by the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria. She stated that the government has streamlined the payment process to ensure faster and more predictable disbursements, in line with international best practices. All bonuses earned by the players during the group stage have been fully processed and cleared through the necessary regulatory procedures.

To address the players’ preference for payment in foreign currency, a fast-track conversion process has been introduced. The final stage of the payment process is currently underway, with transfers to the players’ domiciliary accounts in progress. The Minister assured that the players can expect the funds to reflect in their accounts starting from Thursday or Friday.

The government’s focus remains on supporting the team’s welfare as they advance to the knockout phase of the competition. The administration is committed to ensuring that off-field issues do not distract the players from their performance at the tournament. With the bonus issue resolved, the team can now focus on their quarter-final fixture against Algeria, as they continue their campaign at AFCON 2025.

The resolution of the bonus issue is expected to ease concerns around the team’s preparations and boost their morale ahead of the crucial match. The Nigerian government’s prompt action demonstrates its commitment to the team’s success and welfare. As the Super Eagles progress in the tournament, the government’s support will be crucial in helping the team achieve their goal of winning the trophy.
