APC Slams Tambuwal Over Nigeria’s Peril Claim

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to comments made by former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, who stated that Nigeria is in peril and needs urgent salvation. The party’s spokesman, Seye Oladejo, described Tambuwal’s remarks as a case of misplaced moral outrage, arguing that when Tambuwal was in a position of power, he failed to implement the necessary changes he now advocates for.

According to Oladejo, Tambuwal’s statement is an example of political theatre, and he urged the former governor and his associates to take a more constructive approach. Oladejo emphasized that if salvation is truly the concern, it should begin with humility, restitution, and support for reforms that move the nation forward. He noted that anything short of this is mere noise, convenient, and ultimately hollow.

The APC spokesman pointed out that Nigerians remember Tambuwal’s time in government and the expected dividends of leadership that were not delivered. Instead of offering a candid reckoning with his record or apologizing for missed opportunities, Tambuwal has chosen to sermonize from a pedestal of selective amnesia. Oladejo also referenced Tambuwal’s recent 60th birthday colloquium, which he believed presented an opportunity for the former governor to truly confess, seek forgiveness, and embrace restitution from a nation that gave him so much but received little in return.

Nigeria’s challenges are complex and did not materialize overnight, nor were they authored by the present administration alone. Many of those now speaking out about the nation’s problems were active participants, if not architects, of the policy inertia, political brinkmanship, and economic drift that constrained national progress for years. The APC spokesman argued that to proclaim peril without accepting culpability is to insult the intelligence of Nigerians.

The exchange highlights the ongoing debate about Nigeria’s future and the role of its leaders in addressing the country’s challenges. As the nation continues to grapple with issues such as economic development, political stability, and social inequality, the conversation is likely to remain a contentious one. With various stakeholders weighing in on the matter, it remains to be seen how the discussion will unfold and what steps will be taken to address the nation’s problems.
