The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the establishment of caretaker committees to oversee party affairs in five Nigerian states: Delta, Enugu, Imo, Rivers, and Osun. The National Working Committee (NWC) made the appointments on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC), in accordance with Section 29(2)(b) of the PDP Constitution.
The caretaker committees, which will manage party affairs for a tenure not exceeding 90 days or until new executive committees are elected, were announced in a statement signed by Theophilus Dakas Shan, National Organizing Secretary of the PDP. The committees are tasked with operating strictly under the guidance of the PDP Constitution, the Electoral Act 2022, and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In Delta State, the caretaker committee will be led by Prof. Sylvester Monye as Chairman, with Dr. Michael Tidi serving as Secretary. Other members include Ujor Ucheonny, Pharm. Victor Ofobrukueta, and Comdr. Johnbull Aghogho Kenairu. In Enugu State, Barr. Steve Oruruo will chair the committee, with Martin Ugwuamadieze as Secretary. Members include Ugwu Uchenna Godswill, Lilian C. C. Ugwuoke, and Anikezie Michael.
The Imo State caretaker committee will be led by Chief John Jude Okere, with Mr. Magnus Amadi as Secretary. Members include Mr. Kenneth Ejiofor, Arc. Chinonso Odoemelam, and Mr. Celestine Uwah. In Rivers State, Ogbam Ojimah will chair the committee, with Dr. Field Baribeful Nkor as Secretary. Members include Richard Enyia Victor, Grace Boma Harry, and Princess Isioma Stella Elenwa.
The Osun State caretaker committee will be led by Hon. Tunde Tijani, with Hon. Bamidele Seyi-Abiola as Secretary. Members include Hon. Lateef Mumini Obide, Alhaji Sarafa Gbadamosi, and Hon. Adewoyin Babatunde. The establishment of these caretaker committees is a significant development in the PDP’s efforts to reorganize and strengthen its presence in these states. The committees’ 90-day tenure will provide an opportunity for the party to reassess its strategies and prepare for future elections. With the PDP being one of the major political parties in Nigeria, the outcome of these caretaker committees’ work is likely to have implications for the country’s political landscape.
