Makinde Donates PDP Oyo Secretariat, Turaki Commissions

PDP Commissions New Oyo State Secretariat in Ibadan**

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commissioned a newly built state secretariat in Ibadan, Oyo State, a move aimed at strengthening its organisational structure at the sub-national level. The facility, fully constructed and furnished by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, was officially opened on Tuesday by the party’s National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN.

The secretariat, which was donated by Governor Makinde, includes modern offices and meeting rooms designed to enhance the party’s administrative and operational capacity within the state. At the commissioning ceremony, Chairman Turaki praised the building as “qualitatively finished and adequately furnished,” describing the governor’s action as a significant demonstration of commitment to the PDP. He urged other PDP governors across Nigeria to replicate such investments to fortify the party’s grassroots presence.

Addressing party members, Turaki acknowledged recent internal challenges, including court rulings that he termed “unnecessary distractions.” He expressed gratitude for members’ loyalty and assured them that the party would overcome current pressures to emerge stronger.

Governor Makinde, in his remarks, reaffirmed his dedication to the PDP and pledged continued support for its national leadership. He specifically expressed confidence in Chairman Turaki’s stewardship. The event was attended by former Kano State Governor Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau and several members of the PDP National Working Committee.

The commissioning highlights ongoing efforts by the PDP to consolidate its state-level chapters amid both internal dynamics and a competitive political environment. By establishing a functional permanent secretariat in a key state like Oyo, the party seeks to improve coordination, membership engagement, and campaign readiness for future electoral contests. This development is viewed as part of a broader strategy to reinforce institutional frameworks ahead of the 2027 general election cycle.
