PDP Sets Up Caretaker Committee for Abia State Chapter

PDP Installs Caretaker Committee to Oversee Abia State Chapter

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has constituted a caretaker committee to manage the affairs of its Abia State chapter, following a resolution by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC). The decision, made on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC), is in accordance with Section 29(2)(b) of the PDP Constitution (2025 as amended).

The announcement was made in a statement on Monday by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong. The committee, mandated under Section 21(2)(a–b) of the party’s constitution, is tasked with stabilising the state chapter and ensuring effective party administration.

Mr. Ikpegbu Emeka-Yellow will chair the nine-member committee. Other members include Chief Ochiobi Fidel Chukwuemeka, Engr. Gladys Okoro, Chief Chijindu Kalu, Samuel Chukwudi Mike, Seth Agomuo, Mrs. Ugo Kalu, and Obinna Nwaogwugwu. Felix Nwagbara serves as the committee secretary.

The caretaker committee’s tenure is limited to 90 days, or until the election of a new state executive committee, whichever comes first. The party stressed that all members must operate strictly within the framework of the PDP Constitution (2025 as amended), the Electoral Act 2022, and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999 as amended).

This intervention is a standard constitutional mechanism employed by national party leadership to address administrative vacuums or resolve internal impasses at the state level. The PDP expressed confidence that the interim leadership would work diligently to reposition the party and foster unity in Abia State ahead of future electoral cycles.

The move underscores the PDP’s commitment to internal discipline and constitutional compliance as it prepares for subsequent political engagements. The national leadership is expected to monitor the committee’s activities closely to ensure a smooth transition to a democratically elected state executive.
