APC: Cross River Congresses Successful, 2027 Victory Prelude

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared the conclusion of its recently held ward and local government congresses in Cross River State as successful, setting the stage for the party’s upcoming state congress. The assessment was delivered by Samuel Yarnap, Chairman of the State Congress Committee, in Calabar on Saturday following the three-day exercise.

Yarnap reported that the process, held from Wednesday to Friday, was conducted peacefully across the state. He attributed the orderly conduct to the leadership of Governor Bassey Otu, describing the party as functioning “as one big family” despite internal differences. “I can rightly say that Cross River conducted one of the best congresses so far,” Yarnap stated, emphasizing that the unity displayed bodes well for the party’s future. He urged members to maintain discipline to ensure the process remains on track toward the state congress and the broader 2027 electoral goals.

The committee’s observation was supported by Mr. Ademola Adetokunbo, Chairman of the national party’s Appeals Committee deployed to Cross River. Adetokunbo explained his committee’s role in ensuring fair hearings and adherence to party guidelines, underscoring the national leadership’s commitment to internal democracy. He commended Governor Otu for fostering a cohesive and peaceful political environment.

Security and logistics were also highlighted. State APC Chairman Ekum Ojogu confirmed that adequate security measures were implemented to guarantee a peaceful exercise, noting that precautions were taken to satisfy all procedural requirements. Similarly, James Anam, Chairman of Calabar Municipality Local Government Council, linked the peaceful outcome to the overall stability in the state under the governor’s tenure.

The successful ward and local government congresses are a precursor to the state congress, a critical step in the APC’s grassroots reorganization ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections. The coordinated deployment of national committees and the emphasis on unity reflect the party’s strategy to consolidate its structure in Cross River, a state with a competitive political landscape. The leadership’s focus on internal cohesion and due process signals an intent to present a unified front for future electoral contests.
