Yango Partners Flutterwave for Digital Payments in Zambia

Yango, the ride-hailing and food delivery platform operated by Yango Group, has announced a strategic partnership with Flutterwave, a prominent African payments technology company, to introduce secure digital card payments across its services in Zambia.

The collaboration directly integrates Flutterwave’s payment processing infrastructure into the Yango app, enabling customers to pay for taxi rides and food orders using bank cards. This move is positioned as a key step in Yango’s broader strategy to expand cashless transaction options within the Zambian market, responding to growing consumer and merchant demand for digital commerce solutions.

Yango stated that the partnership aims to enhance transaction security, improve payment reliability, and support scalable growth as more users and restaurant partners shift away from cash. The company highlighted that the integration aligns with Zambia’s ongoing digital economic transformation and its own commitment to financial inclusion.

“Partnering with Flutterwave allows us to strengthen our digital payment capabilities while supporting Zambia’s transition toward a more digitally enabled economy,” said Kabanda Chewe, Country Head for Yango Zambia. “This is an important step in improving the overall experience for customers and helping restaurants grow through reliable digital transactions.”

Iyembi Nkanza, Country Head at Flutterwave, added, “Our partnership with Yango represents Flutterwave’s commitment to making payments seamless and accessible across Africa. By integrating our payment infrastructure with Yango’s platform, we’re empowering Zambians with secure, convenient payment options that remove friction from everyday transactions.”

The partnership arrives as Zambia records rising adoption of digital services, particularly in food delivery and mobility. For Flutterwave, the deal extends its footprint in providing payment rails for on-demand services across the continent. For Yango, it deepens its local value proposition beyond transportation, fostering a connected ecosystem for customers, merchants, and delivery partners.

Both companies noted that the initiative is part of longer-term investments in Zambia, including technology-driven service enhancements and partner empowerment programs. Yango indicated it will continue exploring additional features and partnerships to support the country’s digital commerce landscape.

The rollout of card payments through Flutterwave is now live for Yango users in Zambia, marking a significant milestone in the platform’s regional cashless strategy and reflecting broader trends toward digitized everyday transactions in emerging markets.
