Nigerian social media influencer Martinuze Onifade, widely known as Verydarkman (VDM), has publicly alleged that Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, and content creator King Mitchy have threatened his life. The accusations, made in a viral Instagram video on Friday, intensify a public feud between the influencer and the creator.
The dispute originates from a separate online rivalry between Verydarkman and King Mitchy. The conflict escalated following King Mitchy’s widely publicised renovation of a public school, a project reportedly funded by financial support from Seyi Tinubu. Verydarkman has consistently criticised King Mitchy for not providing transparent accounting for public donations she has solicited since 2025. In prior exchanges, Verydarkman accused Seyi Tinubu of financially backing King Mitchy’s charitable activities.
In his latest statement, Verydarkman directly implicated both individuals in a threat to his safety. He shared what he described as a text message from King Mitchy to a mutual associate, in which she reportedly expressed fear and stated that “Seyi just called me now to explain everything.” Verydarkman claimed Seyi Tinubu possesses significant influence, alleging he “can command the IGP and DSS boss,” referring to Nigeria’s top police and intelligence chiefs.
He urged the Nigerian public to hold Seyi Tinubu and King Mitchy responsible should any harm come to him or his associates, framing the alleged threat as retaliation for his criticism of the federal government. “I want Nigerians to know that it is because I am speaking about the evil of this government that Seyi Tinubu is coming for me,” he stated, adding, “THIS IS NOT A JOKE. I DON’T FEEL SAFE.”
Seyi Tinubu has not issued a public response to the allegations. The police and state security services have also not commented on the influencer’s claims regarding their alleged influence.
The incident highlights the volatile intersection of Nigeria’s digital influencer culture, political dynasties, and activism. Verydarkman, known for his outspoken critiques of government policies, has amassed a large following by addressing social and political issues. His direct appeal to the public for accountability underscores the personal risks some online critics allege they face. The situation now depends on whether formal complaints are lodged with law enforcement and how the implicated parties respond to the serious accusations.
