FCT election: Nafiu Gombe names those to blame for ADC's failure

Nafiu Bala Gombe, the factional National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has firmly rejected a purported suspension imposed by the David Mark-led faction of the party. He asserts that this faction lacks the authority to take disciplinary action against him. In a statement to journalists on Friday, Gombe emphasized that the matter is currently before a court of law, which renders any internal suspension invalid. “The David Mark-led faction does not have any power to suspend me. Our matter is still in court,” he declared.

Gombe’s comments come in response to the reported expulsion of both himself and Leke Abejide, a member of the House of Representatives, by the Mark-led faction. This internal dispute highlights the deepening factional divisions within the ADC. The controversy is compounded by broader turmoil within the party, particularly following the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) stripping David Mark of his position as national chairman due to procedural irregularities. This decision has further complicated the party’s leadership structure and intensified the ongoing political infighting.

Gombe’s position indicates a protracted legal and political struggle over control of the ADC, with both factions likely to pursue their claims through the courts. The outcome of this conflict could have significant implications for the party’s unity and its ability to participate effectively in future electoral contests. As the dispute continues to unfold, political analysts warn that such internal conflicts could weaken the ADC’s standing in Nigeria’s competitive political landscape, especially with national elections approaching.
