The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has firmly rejected allegations made by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) regarding Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s involvement in the prosecution of former Senate President Bukola Saraki over the 2018 Offa robbery incident. During a press briefing held in Ilorin on Saturday, APC Secretary Mr. Abdulwaheed Balogun characterized the PDP’s claims as “melodramatic” and devoid of substance. He emphasized the party’s obligation to address the misinformation circulating in the public domain to clarify the situation and correct any misconceptions.
Balogun specifically responded to the PDP and Saraki’s assertion that the governor was orchestrating plans to file charges against Saraki and three others in connection with the armed robbery, which resulted in the tragic loss of over 30 lives. He stated, “Neither Saraki nor the PDP should be concerned if they have no culpability,” highlighting that the judicial system relies on evidence and facts rather than public rhetoric. He urged those implicated in the case to allow the judicial process to unfold without resorting to personal attacks or media campaigns. “The proper thing is for defendants to face trial and let the court determine guilt or innocence,” he asserted.
Furthermore, Balogun noted that individuals familiar with the events surrounding the incident would support the facts and called for respect for due process. He also dismissed statements questioning the popularity of the current administration, asserting that the residents of the state are best positioned to evaluate the government’s performance. He commended the state government for its dedication to pursuing justice and reiterated that the matter is currently before a competent court.
Balogun cautioned against attempts to manipulate public opinion through media narratives, emphasizing that it is the judiciary’s responsibility to determine the outcome of the case. He advised the PDP to encourage Saraki to clear his name through legal channels instead of making statements that could undermine public institutions. “No individual is above the law, and legal processes should not be substituted with media campaigns,” he remarked.
In conclusion, Balogun reaffirmed that the administration remains focused on its governance priorities, which include infrastructure development, healthcare improvement, and the timely payment of salaries and pensions. He stated that the government would not be distracted by political criticism and would continue to uphold its commitment to security, development, and justice in Kwara State.
