Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has officially welcomed former governor and senator Malam Ibrahim Shekarau into the All Progressives Congress (APC). He described this move as a significant boost for the party’s prospects in the state. In a press statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, Governor Yusuf emphasized that Shekarau’s return would further strengthen the APC’s position in Kano ahead of future elections. He mentioned that a formal reception date for Shekarau would soon be arranged in consultation with the party’s national secretariat.
Governor Yusuf highlighted the growing support and consolidation within the APC in Kano, positioning it as the most dominant political force in the state. He expressed confidence in the party’s readiness for the upcoming elections, asserting that the APC is fully prepared to contest and win all available positions. The governor attributed this optimism to what he described as increasing unity and strategic political alignments within the party. He assured members and supporters that the party leadership remains focused on strengthening internal cohesion and expanding its grassroots support base across Kano State.
In his remarks, Governor Yusuf urged party loyalists to stay committed and continue mobilizing support as the APC prepares for future political contests. His statements come during a period of realignment in Kano’s political landscape, with the APC seeking to consolidate its influence ahead of upcoming electoral cycles. Shekarau, who previously served as Kano’s governor from 2003 to 2011 and later as a senator, had been associated with other political parties before his recent move to the APC. His return is viewed as a strategic gain for the ruling party in a state that has long been a political battleground in northern Nigeria. Observers note that this development could have significant implications for the balance of power in Kano, where electoral outcomes often depend on the ability of parties to build broad coalitions and maintain strong local support networks.
