NDC Warns Members Against Early Election Declarations

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has warned its members against declaring their intention to contest in the party’s upcoming internal elections before the official timelines are announced. The caution comes as the party finalises guidelines and a detailed timetable for its electoral processes, which will span from branch-level to national-level contests.

In a statement, Deputy General Secretary in charge of Operations, Mustapha Gbande, stressed that any premature declaration of intent outside the approved schedule would breach party rules and could lead to disqualification if proven. “I would like to place on the record that premature declaration of intentions to contest outside the timelines may constitute an activity outside the guidelines and the same could be a potent ground for disqualification of an aspirant at any level, particularly constituency, regional and national level, if such evidence is established,” he said.

The NDC recently concluded a limited registration exercise for new members and a dues payment process to validate membership and determine eligibility to contest. The party has urged all members to refrain from early campaigning and to strictly adhere to the laid-down guidelines.

Mr Gbande added that the NDC is committed to maintaining a stable political environment and ensuring that its internal elections are conducted fairly and transparently. The party’s leadership has emphasised the importance of following the approved procedures to avoid disruptions and maintain the integrity of the electoral process.

The internal elections are a key step in the NDC’s preparations for future national contests, and the party has reiterated its focus on orderly and rule-based processes. Members have been advised to await official announcements regarding timelines and procedures before taking any steps toward candidacy.
