Kano Reps Members Defect to ADC Amid Defection Wave

Four members of the House of Representatives from Kano State have switched allegiance from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking another wave of defections in the National Assembly.

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas announced the move during Wednesday’s plenary session after receiving formal letters from the lawmakers. The defections involve Sani Wakili (Minjibir/Ungogo Federal Constituency), Muktar Zakari (Tarauni Federal Constituency), Umar Datti (Kura/Madobi/Garun Mallam Federal Constituency), and Abdulhakeem Ado (Wudil/Garko Federal Constituency).

This development follows Tuesday’s defections, when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lost five members and the All Progressives Congress (APC) saw two lawmakers exit. The recent defections highlight ongoing shifts in Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly within the National Assembly, where party realignments are becoming increasingly common ahead of future electoral cycles.

The defections may influence legislative dynamics and party strategies as the political environment continues to evolve.
