Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele took to her official X account on Friday to denounce Air Peace after she and several other passengers were left stranded at London Gatwick Airport. According to Akindele, travellers have been waiting at the airport since 6:30 a.m. without adequate communication from the carrier.
Akindele wrote that passengers, including elderly individuals, were informed after several hours of delay that a bird strike had caused the disruption. She said the airline promised accommodation, yet, hours later, passengers remained at the baggage‑claim area without their luggage, food or a place to rest. “Elderly passengers are struggling. Families are tired. No clear updates. No support. Release passengers’ luggage immediately and provide the hotel you promised. Do something NOW @flyairpeace,” she posted.
Air Peace responded to the complaint, expressing empathy for the inconvenience and stating that safety and operational efficiency are its priorities. The airline’s statement acknowledged that “certain factors beyond our control can sometimes cause delays,” and assured that its team was working to provide “adequate assistance” to affected travellers.
Less than an hour after the airline’s reply, Akindele posted an additional update, noting that by 4 p.m. no luggage had been released, no hotel accommodation had been arranged, and no satisfactory updates had been provided. “Release the luggage and take care of your passengers NOW,” she wrote.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about airline communication and passenger care during irregular operations. Air Peace’s handling of the situation may attract further scrutiny from regulators and consumer‑rights groups, while affected passengers await resolution of the baggage and accommodation issues.
