Nigeria Falconets arrive in Lilongwe for U-20 WC qualifier

Nigeria’s U‑20 women’s team, the Falconets, have arrived in Lilongwe for the second leg of their 2026 FIFA U‑20 Women’s World Cup qualifying tie against Malawi, Daily Post reports.

The Falcons, coached by Moses Aduku, secured a 2–0 victory over the Young Scorchers in the first leg at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne last weekend. The reverse fixture is scheduled for Saturday at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

Both sides have been in good form during the qualifying campaign. The Falconets have won both of their away matches, edging past Rwanda 1–0 in the first round and defeating Senegal 2–1 in the second round. Malawi, meanwhile, are looking to overturn the deficit and keep their World Cup hopes alive.

The aggregate winner of the two‑legged tie will earn a place in the 2026 FIFA U‑20 Women’s World Cup, which is set to take place in Poland in September. Qualification will bring the successful team one step closer to the global tournament and provide valuable experience for the young players ahead of senior international duties.

The match in Lilongwe is expected to attract a sizable crowd, reflecting growing interest in women’s football across the region. Both federations have highlighted the importance of the fixture for the development of youth talent and the promotion of the women’s game in Africa.

If Nigeria maintains its unbeaten record, it will join the elite group of African nations that have consistently progressed to the World Cup at this age level. A victory for Malawi would mark a significant achievement for the host nation and could boost the sport’s profile domestically.

The outcome of Saturday’s encounter will determine which side will continue its journey toward the World Cup in Poland, concluding this round of African qualifiers.
