Elumelu defeats incumbent, emerges APC candidate for Aniocha/Oshimili fed constituency

Former House Minority Leader Ndudi Elumelu has been confirmed as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency. The result was announced at the collation centre in Oshimili South Local Government Area by the constituency Returning Officer, Barrister Val Arenyeka, who affirmed that Elumelu secured the highest number of votes in the party’s primary.

Speaking to reporters after his emergence, Elumelu thanked God, party members and voters, characterising the win as a “collective mandate” for the people of Aniocha/Oshimili. He praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership under the “Renewed Hope” agenda, noting that it has bolstered the APC nationwide and facilitated peaceful party congresses. Elumelu also commended Delta State Governor Sheriff Francis Oborevwori for the implementation of the “MORE” agenda, which he said has repositioned the state and reinforced party support there.

In a statement, Elumelu extended gratitude to Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, the APC National Working Committee and the Delta State Working Committee for steering the party through a critical period. He highlighted the contributions of his campaign council, particularly Director General Dr. Darlington Ijeh, for their dedication to the primary’s success.

Elumelu pledged to channel development projects, employment opportunities and empowerment programmes into the constituency if elected. He promised to restore Aniocha/Oshimili’s prominence in the National Assembly and called for unity within the APC, urging fellow aspirants and dissatisfied members to embrace sportsmanship and cooperate for the party’s prospects in upcoming elections.

The emergence of Elumelu, a veteran legislator with experience as the House’s former minority leader, adds a prominent figure to the APC’s roster in Delta State. His candidacy is expected to intensify competition in the Aniocha/Oshimili seat, where multiple parties vie for voter support. The party’s internal cohesion and Elumelu’s outreach to the constituency will likely shape the dynamics of the contest as the election calendar advances.

As the APC consolidates its ticket, political observers will watch how the party balances national agendas with local priorities, and whether Elumelu’s appeal can translate into broader electoral gains for the APC in the region. Further updates will follow as campaigning intensifies and the official election timetable is confirmed.
