A Magistrate’s Court in Ikeja, sitting at Ogba, Lagos State, has remanded 36‑year‑old Roland Okajere to the Kirikiri Correctional Centre. He is accused of raping his 18‑year‑old daughter inside his shop in the Ikotun area.
The magistrate, Mr. L. A. Owolabi, issued the order after the defendant was arraigned on Monday on a charge of rape filed by the police. Police prosecutor Inspector Esther Igbineweka informed the court that the alleged offence occurred on 4 January 2023 and is punishable under Section 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The charge reads: “That you, Roland Okajere, on 4 January 2023, at your shop at Ikotun Bus Stop, Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did rape your daughter, 18, by having sexual intercourse with her without her consent and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”
The magistrate did not record a plea from the defendant. He ordered that Okajere be remanded for 30 days pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution. The case was adjourned to 12 April 2023 for mention.
