Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has appointed former Cabinet minister Jamleck Irungu Kamau as chairman of the Wiper Patriotic Front and lawyer Ndegwa Njiru as national spokesperson, part of a leadership overhaul aimed at repositioning the party ahead of the 2027 General Election. Nyali Member of Parliament Mohammed Ali was also named Deputy Party Leader-designate.
The appointments, which take effect immediately, were announced following the party’s National Delegates Congress. Kalonzo said delegates had mandated him with two priorities: to contest the presidency on August 10, 2027, and to broaden the party’s leadership into a national movement capable of uniting diverse constituencies.
“The first was to seek the presidency of the Republic of Kenya in August 2027,” Kalonzo told party members. “The second, no less weighty, was to expand and renew the leadership of this movement until it stood as the face of Kenya, broad enough to hold every county, every generation and every Kenyan who has chosen to liberate Kenya.”
Kamau brings three decades of political experience. He previously served as Cabinet minister for Nairobi Metropolitan Development, spent two terms in Parliament, and was national vice chairman of the Party of National Unity. Kalonzo described him as a seasoned coalition builder who has “spent 30 years building coalitions, balancing budgets and holding fractious political houses together under pressure.” That discipline, he said, is essential as the party assembles what it calls a “United Alternative Government in waiting” to challenge the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Njiru, an advocate known for constitutional litigation and governance commentary, was chosen to sharpen the party’s public messaging. Kalonzo said his legal expertise and communication skills would strengthen engagement as the opposition seeks to popularise its agenda nationwide.
Ali’s appointment adds a distinct profile. Before entering elective politics, he built a national reputation through investigative journalism exposing corruption. “Long before he sat in Parliament, Mohammed Ali sat behind a camera exposing corruption and giving a voice to ordinary Kenyans,” Kalonzo said. The party believes his background will resonate particularly with younger voters as it works to build a broader coalition.
The restructuring reflects a deliberate effort to present Wiper as a national vehicle for opposition politics. Kalonzo has framed the initiative as preparation not just for an election, but for governance. The new leadership team is expected to lead outreach across counties, consolidate alliances, and articulate a policy platform ahead of the 2027 contest.
