Nigerian Army troops, working alongside the Nigeria Police Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, recovered a suspected improvised explosive device in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State on August 7, 2026.
The operation followed a report that a suspected IED had been planted along a road in the Jabanda area of Zurmi LGA. Personnel from CSI Battalion VI/CT 2, operating under the Joint Task Force North-West Operation FANSAN YAMMA and deployed at Forward Operating Base Kaura Namoda, mobilised to Jabanda Village. They were accompanied by the police EOD team and soldiers from the 1 Brigade Quick Reaction Force.
The joint security team located the suspected explosive device along the affected route, cleared it, and recovered it without incident. After the device was removed, authorities declared the road safe and reopened it to motorists, restoring normal movement along the corridor.
The successful operation highlights ongoing coordination between the military and police in addressing explosive threats in the North-West. Operation FANSAN YAMMA continues to conduct patrols and respond to security alerts across Zamfara and neighbouring states, where improvised explosive devices have increasingly been used to target security personnel and disrupt civilian travel.
