Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State is asking for a pause in the uproar over the Federal Government’s proposal to set up pilot ranches in the state and others. In a measured response, the governor made it clear he would not be rushed into a stance that goes against what his people want, stressing that every citizen of Benue has a stake in the mission to rebuild the state’s fortunes.
The governor’s position was relayed on Saturday through his chief press secretary, Tersoo Kula, who noted that Alia has consistently shown that leadership for him is about service, not just titles. Kula said the governor believes the ranching plan deserves calm reflection rather than heated reactions.
Alia’s message is simple: there is no need to drag this matter into the streets, pulpits, airwaves, or market squares just to score political points. He warned against turning the proposal into a frenzy before all the facts are on the table.
Kula stressed that Alia has never taken a position that undermines the interests of Benue State. Instead, the governor is said to be fully engaged on the issue, holding consultations with key stakeholders and relevant authorities behind the scenes.
The governor’s approach, according to Kula, is one of deliberate and strategic thinking. He pointed out that not every issue demands an immediate public statement, and that sometimes, quiet deliberation yields far better results than hasty declarations. He urged residents to trust the process, emphasizing that patience and thoughtful engagement are vital as the government weighs the proposal and charts the best path forward for Benue.
