Paul Ibe, media aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has called on voters in Osun State to maintain vigilance during the ongoing collation of results from Saturday’s governorship election. In a post on X, Ibe alleged that the administration of President Bola Tinubu, operating through the All Progressives Congress (APC), could attempt to manipulate the outcome in collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“Osun people, you have to be vigilant. Indeed, you have to keep the vigil,” Ibe wrote. “There’s no guarantee that while you sleep, the Tinubu-led APC administration working in cahoots with INEC will not subvert the will of the people by changing the results.”
Ibe pointed to the suspension of result uploads on the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IREV) as evidence of potential irregularities. “The pausing of the uploading of results on the IREV is indicative that they’re up to something crooked. It happened in 2023. To the urban bandits, ‘all is fair in politics.’”
He urged residents to monitor the collation and announcement process closely until final results are declared. The remarks come amid heightened scrutiny of electoral transparency in Nigeria, with stakeholders frequently raising concerns about the integrity of result transmission systems. INEC has not publicly responded to the specific allegations regarding the IREV upload pause. Collation exercises continue across the state’s local government areas.
