The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that it will review the results from Obingwa Local Government Area in Abia State after thugs invaded a collation centre. The statement was made this evening by Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, during a press briefing on the ongoing collation of the governorship and State House of Assembly elections in Abuja.
Okoye said, “Earlier today, the commission alerted the nation to the invasion of our Obingwa Local Government Area office in Abia State by thugs during the collation of the governorship and state assembly elections. The collated results from the registration area for these elections were contested, and the thugs attempted to force the collation of the disputed results. This behaviour is unacceptable, and there will be a thorough review of the results.”
State reports indicate that the Returning Officer, Prof. Nnnena Otti, adjourned the collation of the state’s polls to 10 a.m. on March 20, citing that other local governments were not yet ready. Of the 17 LGAs, only 10 have submitted their results to INEC. Checks by our correspondent on IRev show that, as of 9 p.m. on March 19, 95.10 % of the state’s results have been uploaded to the result‑viewing site.
