The Federal Government of Nigeria has recently acknowledged eight professional women for their remarkable achievements in their respective fields of work. The Nigerian Women Hall of Fame, situated at the National Center for Women Development, hosted the formal induction ceremony.
The Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Pauline Tallen, recognised the hard work and dedication exhibited by the inductees throughout their careers. She applauded them for attaining exceptional feats and encouraged them to inspire younger generations of women to further the growth and participation of women in Nigeria.
Moreover, Mrs Tallen urged state commissioners for Women Affairs to replicate the structure of the Nigerian Women Hall of Fame in their various states. This is to document and acknowledge the contributions of women at the subnational levels and encourage the growth of women’s political participation.
The Director General of NCWD, Dr Asabe Vilita-Bashir, noted that the Nigerian Women Hall of Fame contains records of pre-colonial and contemporary Nigerian women who have made significant contributions to various areas. She added that the induction of these women would provide a source of inspiration for the younger generation of girls to recognise the potential of women in Nigerian society.
The inductees into the Nigerian Women Hall of Fame include Dr Eleanor Nwadinobi, the first international president of the Medical Women Association, Mrs Bolariwa Kemisola, the first African woman to invent a wearable technology, and AIG Aisha Baju, the first female monitor-general in 44 years of the Nigerians Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, among others.
It is pertinent to note that the Nigerian Women Hall of Fame provides a platform for the recognition of the hard work and contribution of women in different fields. As a result, more women are encouraged to strive for excellence and serve as an inspiration to young girls.
